Skandia Gateway is a collaborative venture between the Swedish Maritime Administration, the Gothenburg Port Authority, and the Swedish Transport Administration. Skandia Gateway will ensure direct services to Sweden and access to the whole world for Swedish industry.

The Port of Gothenburg is currently the only Swedish port that can receive the world’s largest container vessels and by doing so offer direct deep-sea services to other continents.

Container vessels are growing in size and the fairway leading into the port needs to be deepened by up to five metres.

Contractor appointed for Skandia Gateway: NCC

On 1 July 2020, the Gothenburg Port Authority and NCC entered into an agreement governing a design-build contract under ABT06 rules. The project will be run on a Partnering/Collaboration basis and will begin with initial planning for which NCC engaged the services of two consulting companies – Sweco and Golder. Construction is expected to begin in the winter of 2022.
